BUDDY CHECK PROGRAM

Introducing the Buddy Check Program, connecting you with another veteran who truly knows and cares. At American Legion Post 64, we deeply value compassion and recognize the profound impact that a simple conversation can have. With the Buddy Check Program, you’ll never have to confront challenges alone. Reach out, connect, and experience the unwavering support that comes from having someone who truly understands by your side. Discover the incredible strength of camaraderie and the profound bond shared with your fellow veterans. Join our community today and allow us to demonstrate the remarkable power of connection. The buddy check program was initiated and ran by no one other than our own Veteran Service Officer- Craig Annis. Veterans helping veterans, is not just a mission/motto it’s what our members live by.

In the Army, your battle buddy is your brother/sister in arms, the person you’re willing to risk your life alongside in combat. This camaraderie is deeply ingrained in every soldier and is reflected in buddy checks, meetings, and time spent with your fellow brothers/sisters in arms. These simple actions can have a profound impact on saving lives and preventing suicides. Currently, the military suicide rate stands at 42 soldiers a day, double the previous count of 22. As American Legion Post 64, we are committed to finding a better way to address this issue and support our servicemen and women.

Within 60 days

Former Veteran Service Officer Craig Annis, a dedicated leader of Ahwatukee Post 64, wasted no time in initiating the outreach program. Within a mere two weeks, he successfully reached out to over 100 members, leaving no stone unturned. Through personal conversations, voicemails, emails, and letters, Fomer VSO Craig Annis ensured that all 170 members of Ahwatukee Post 64 were contacted. Presently, This Buddy Check Program is run by a commitee of volunteers and the VSO. They strive to maintain regular communication with every member within 60 days of their last contact, accommodating any request for expedited updates.

Simplicity

Connecting with a fellow veteran has never been easier. At American Legion Post 64, we believe in the power of a simple phone call. Just dial the number and express who you are with a friendly hello. This small gesture means the world to others. When veterans connect, an immediate camaraderie is formed, reminding us of the shared experiences and bonds we hold. Take a moment to check in with a veteran you know. A simple call can make a meaningful difference.

Compassion

Just showing a little compassion for others can brighten someone’s day. As veterans, we understand the deep bond that comes from our shared experience and lifestyle in the military. Let’s extend our compassion to those who came before us, thanking them for their service and reminding them that humanity still thrives in this world. Ahwatukee Post 64 leads the way in showing compassion to other veterans.

PACT ACT

At American Legion Post 64, we understand the importance of the PACT Act, named after SGT 1st Class Heath Robinson, in supporting veterans and service members. With a specific focus on providing valuable VA benefits, this act has already had a significant impact on millions of veterans who were exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other harmful toxins. Our dedicated mission is to connect these deserving veterans with the necessary healthcare options and benefits they have rightfully earned through their service. Whether you encountered exposure in Iraq, Afghanistan, or faced Agent Orange in Vietnam, rest assured that our committed team is here to offer unwavering support and the assistance you deserve. Trust in our devotion to veterans helping veterans, ensuring you receive the support you need to navigate the challenges associated with PACT Act, Agent Orange, burn pits, and VA benefits. However, it is important to note that most other health conditions, require the veteran to show that their military service directly caused the condition.

What does it mean to have a presumptive condition for toxic exposure?

Presumptive conditions, as recognized by the Veteran Affairs, refer to medical conditions that do not necessitate proving that one’s time in service directly caused the condition to receive a VA disability rating. These conditions are automatically considered to have been caused by military service, eliminating the need for additional evidence.

VA announces 1 million claims filed for PACT ACT

Sept 14, 2023 – Department of Veterans Affairs announced that veterans and their survivors have filed more than 1 million claims for toxic exposure-related benefits under the PACT Act, since President Biden signed it into law Aug. 10, 2022.

Department of Veterans Affairs PACT Act Updates

On March 5, 2024, the VA is expanding the PACT Act health care to millions more Veterans. This will extend the years to earlier than originally set by the PACT Act. Please visit the Department of Veterans Affairs – PACT Act for more updates & information.
