Post 64’s Resources

Post 64 is dedicated to helping veterans access available benefits from various orgaZASnizations. We know that navigating these resources can be tough, and we’re committed to ensuring you receive the necessary support.

Veterans Helping Veterans, A Post 64 Campaign

Veterans encounter a wide array of experiences throughout their military careers and in their lives thereafter, with each moment contributing uniquely to their personal journeys.

While some resources may be specifically designed for members of the American Legion, the overwhelming majority of these vital supports are accessible to all veterans, ensuring that critical assistance is available to anyone who seeks help, independent of their affiliation.

This commitment to inclusivity not only highlights the importance of providing essential services to those who have served our nation but also fosters a profound sense of community and belonging among all veterans, reinforcing the bonds that unite them in their shared experiences.

The American Legion is deeply committed to the Be the One campaign, which inspires individuals to rise to the occasion and lend their support to fellow veterans during challenging times. This assistance transcends mere crisis intervention; it represents a profound commitment to the principles of brotherhood and solidarity among those who have bravely served our country.

By fostering a culture of connection and support, we reinforce the bonds that unite us, ensuring that no veteran feels alone in their struggles and that each one knows there is a community ready to stand beside them.

Transition Resources

While transitioning out of the military, service members need to engage in proactive planning, ideally starting a year or more prior to their separation through the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program, TAP. It is crucial that families also get involved, utilizing resources such as the Military Spouse Transition Program, MySTEP, to help them adjust to the significant changes they will encounter outside the structured environment of military life. Although there are various resources designed to support service members during this critical transition period, they may often fall short in effectively aiding veterans as they adapt to a normalized American lifestyle. This is where we come into play, offering additional transitional resources focused on vital areas such as career planning, financial guidance, and benefits navigation, ultimately empowering veterans to not just survive but thrive within their communities and become integral, contributing members of society. Key steps in this important transition process include crafting a tailored civilian resume, networking with professionals in their desired fields, formulating a comprehensive post-military career and financial strategy, and leveraging available resources for internships and training opportunities to ensure a fulfilling and stable career path for veterans.

Mentorship: Veterans Helping Veterans

One of the greatest strengths of the American Legion is the opportunity it provides for mentorship. At Post 64, veterans of every generation come together, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, experience, and understanding. For younger veterans, this means having access to trusted guidance from those who have walked similar paths and can offer support through the transition from military to civilian life.

For our seasoned members, it is equally rewarding to serve as a mentor—sharing lessons learned, offering encouragement, and continuing the tradition of looking out for one another. Mentorship at Post 64 isn’t limited to military advice; it also extends to career guidance, navigating VA benefits, and supporting the everyday challenges of life after service.

By fostering these connections, Post 64 ensures that no veteran ever feels alone. Whether you are seeking guidance or hoping to give back by helping another veteran, you’ll find that Post 64 is a community built on shared experiences, respect, and the bond of service.

Career and Employment Support for Veterans

At American Legion Post 64, we know that transitioning from military to civilian life comes with unique challenges—especially when it comes to finding meaningful employment. That’s why our Post is dedicated to providing resources and guidance to help veterans succeed in the workforce.

We offer assistance with job searches, resume preparation, and interview practice, giving veterans the tools they need to confidently take the next step in their careers. Post 64 also connects members with local community job fairs and works to build relationships with businesses that are proud to hire veterans, including veteran-owned companies that understand the value of military service and experience.

In addition, we help veterans take advantage of programs such as nonprofit “Dress for Success” initiatives, which provide professional attire to ensure that every veteran can walk into an interview looking and feeling their best. By combining these resources with mentorship and community support, Post 64 creates a pathway for veterans to move forward with confidence and success.

Whether you are just beginning your civilian career or looking to take the next step, Post 64 is here to assist you every step of the way.

Financial Resources

Although American Legion Post 64 has the ability to assist veterans with financial aid, the amount of assistance is limited due to our status as a nomad post. This means that while we are recognized as a Post, we do not own a permanent building or have a consistent income stream like many American Legions. However, this does not mean we are unable to help; rather, we are selective about how our funds are utilized since we rely on our members and the few small fundraisers we hold throughout the year. Each request for assistance is evaluated by our board of executive officers, who assess the individual circumstances case by case. Do not be misled by our size; we may be a small Post, but we are skilled at leveraging the benefits that other organizations provide. We have built strong relationships with multiple veterans organizations and are committed to exploring every available option to assist you and your family.
