2. Financial and Emergency Support
Post 64 assist veterans and their families facing financial hardship, with our post being a nomad post we really on the donations of our members and those in the community to support veterans with all applications being vetted. Though through the American Legion’s national’s relief programs —Such as the Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) and National Emergency Fund (NEF)—veterans can receive help with essentials like rent, utilities, food, or transportation. Post 64 works with and help support the ever growing needs of those who fought bravely or served in the military for the United States.
3. Mentorship and Career Resources
American Legion Post 64 connects veterans with job opportunities, career counseling, resume workshops, and mentorship from fellow veterans who have successfully transitioned to civilian life. Or those that have experienced the life of military service. Post 64 also partners other organizations, whom partner with local employers and workforce programs to support veteran hiring initiatives. There are multiple opportunities from within the post itself.
8. Buddy Check Program
Post 64 is bringing back the Buddy Check program—a vital way Post 64 stays connected with it’s members and other fellow veterans. Whether it’s a phone call, a visit, a hand written card mailed, an email, or a simple check-in to our members, this program ensures no veteran in our community is left behind> We are interacting with the communities need for veteran support to be a stronger and more productive community working together to accomplish never before seen goals!
9. Post 64’s Honor Guard and Color Guard
Through our ceremonial programs and community involvement, we ensure that the legacy of honor, duty, and patriotism continues to thrive within both our veterans and the community we serve. Our Honor Guard and Color Guard stand as a proud representation of American Legion Post 64’s commitment to honoring the service and sacrifice of all who have worn the uniform. In addition to being involved with the Boy Scout’s Troop 172.

American Legion’s Ahwatukee Post 64 is more than just a meeting place—it’s a vital resource center dedicated to empowering our communities veterans and their families through support, advocacy, and the Ahwatukee community.
Resources Available Through the American Legion Post 64
Each American Legion Post serves as a local hub of support, camaraderie, and advocacy for veterans, service members, and their families. While Post 64 is slightly different then other post as being a nomad post. We maintain and run a slightly different programs based on needs of our community, while providing a wide range of valuable resources designed to improve the lives of those who served and their families. Resources are listed in no particular order.
1. Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Assistance
Posts 64’s has a trained Service Officer, whom does continuous training. Who can help veterans navigate the VA claims process, apply for disability compensation, healthcare, pensions, and other benefits. The VSO provides one-on-one guidance, ensure paperwork is completed correctly, and advocate on behalf of veterans throughout the process.
4. VA Healthcare and Education Resources
Post 64 helps veterans to access VA healthcare, understand eligibility requirements, and connect with education and training programs such as the GI Bill, vocational rehabilitation, and tuition assistance. These are NOT the only but only a few of the resources available for education.
5. Community and Family Support
The Legion offers support not only to veterans but also to their families. Auxiliary Units and Sons of the American Legion programs often provide family assistance, youth mentorship, and volunteer opportunities that strengthen the entire veteran community.
6. Camaraderie and Peer Support
Each Post offers a place for veterans to gather, share experiences, and find fellowship among others who understand their journey. Events, meetings, and social gatherings foster a sense of belonging and emotional support. Monthly Post meetings (are held the third Wednesday of each month, except July and August) are a great way to stay informed, connect with fellow members, and get involved in upcoming projects and events.
7. Community Service and Outreach
American Legion Posts play an active role in local communities by organizing flag ceremonies, holiday observances, scholarship programs, and charity drives. Through volunteerism and public service, the Legion continues its mission of “Veterans Strengthening America.” Post 64 offers regular opportunities for members to engage, serve, and give back. Annual Honor & Remembrance Ceremony
Each year, American Legion Post 64 proudly hosts an Annual Honor & Remembrance Ceremony to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our nation. This solemn event brings together veterans, families, and community members to reflect, honor, and remember those who gave their all in defense of our freedoms. Through heartfelt tributes, the presentation of colors, and moments of silence, we ensure that their legacy lives on and that their service is never forgotten.
Phoenix Adopt-A-Street (Elliot & Warner Loop)
As part of our ongoing commitment to community service, American Legion Post 64 proudly participates in the Phoenix Adopt-A-Street Program. Our members volunteer regularly to maintain and clean our designated section of roadway, helping keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful, and welcoming for all. This effort not only reflects our pride in the Ahwatukee community but also reinforces our dedication to service—continuing the same sense of duty and teamwork that defined our time in uniform.
Buddy Check Program
The Buddy Check Program is one of the most meaningful initiatives at American Legion Post 64, designed to ensure that no veteran is ever forgotten or left behind. Through regular phone calls, emails, and visits, our members reach out to fellow veterans to check on their well-being, offer assistance, and reconnect them with available resources or support. These simple acts of outreach often make a powerful difference—helping veterans overcome isolation, access benefits, and feel the camaraderie of being part of the Legion family once again.
