A Message from the 2023-2024 Commander

The Commander maintains her own Blog and would like to share some pieces she has written for special occasions about veterans and the American Legion.  We thank her for her truly kind words.

Veterans Helping Veterans means being there for each other.  When you are on active duty there is a shorthand to life that simply doesn’t exist in the civilian world.  Being able to reach out to someone who has been there – or having them reach out to you provides a comfort that just isn’t there for those who haven’t shared the military experience.  What form the assistance takes is based on the assistance needed.  It may be physical or financial, or it may be as simple as someone who understands why the tears flow when you see the missing man formation fly over or hear taps.

Being a part of the American Legion, helping to raise money and reach out to those of our brothers and sister who need help brings me back to the warm place that existed when I served, and we were all working together to achieve a shared mission.  Joining the American Legion was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Officer’s Focus

All positions at American Legion Post 64, from VSO to Commander, are elected annually in April. These elections provide a wonderful opportunity to give back to our cherished veteran community and play an essential role in shaping the future initiatives and operations of our post. Our dedicated elected officers are the vital core of our organization, ensuring its smooth functioning and guiding its strategic focus. Being a member of the commanding officers is a great honor for veterans and represents the face of our organization. We encourage more members to aspire to or volunteer for positions within our post, as we aim for every member to be part of the support for our focus on our initiative of veterans helping veterans. Together, we can make a difference and continue serving those who have served our nation with valor and dedication. We are more than a committee of just volunteers, we are community of veterans. All veterans of Post 64 and their family members are focused on a common cause, veterans helping veterans.
