Join us in commemorating the brave men and women who have served our nation. Wear a red poppy to honor their sacrifices and support those who continue to protect our freedoms. Post 64 in collaboration with Jew War Veterans Post 619, we collected donations for both organizations at the Fry’s Store on Ray Rd. on the 25th and 26th. We out stickers to children and homemade poppy flowers to the individuals that wanted them.
National Poppy Day is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans. Originating from the American Legion Family’s efforts, this day is observed on the Friday before Memorial Day. The red poppy has been a symbol of sacrifice since World War I, representing the blood shed by soldiers in battle. Each year, members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies, encouraging donations to support veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families. The poppy serves as a powerful emblem of the cost of freedom and the enduring gratitude we owe to those who have served.
Every year, on the Friday before Memorial Day, Americans don a red poppy to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our nation. This simple yet profound gesture serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of our freedoms and the enduring legacy of those who have served. The tradition of wearing a red poppy dates back to World War I, inspired by the poignant poem ‘In Flanders Fields,’ which immortalized the red poppies growing amidst the graves of fallen soldiers.
The red poppy has since become a symbol of both remembrance and hope, worn to honor the fallen and support the living veterans who continue to bear the scars of war. By wearing a red poppy, we not only commemorate the sacrifices made by our heroes but also pledge our support to those who have returned home. This act of remembrance and solidarity is a testament to our collective gratitude and commitment to ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
We invite you to join us in honoring the brave men and women who have served our country by wearing a red poppy on the Friday before Memorial Day. This simple act of remembrance is a powerful way to show your support for the fallen and the living veterans who have worn our nation’s uniform. Additionally, we encourage you to make a donation to support the future of our veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families. Your contribution will help provide essential medical and financial assistance to those who have given so much for our freedom.

Join us in recognizing the historic election of Tamma Notaro as our second female commander, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards inclusive leadership.
Veterans Helping Veterans means being there for each other. When you are on active duty there is a shorthand to life that simply doesn’t exist in the civilian world. Being able to reach out to someone who has been there – or having them reach out to you provides a comfort that just isn’t there for those who haven’t shared the military experience. What form the assistance takes is based on the assistance needed. It may be physical or financial, or it may be as simple as someone who understands why the tears flow when you see the missing man formation fly over or hear taps.
Being a part of the American Legion, helping to raise money and reach out to those of our brothers and sister who need help brings me back to the warm place that existed when I served, and we were all working together to achieve a shared mission. Joining the American Legion was one of the best decisions I ever made.
